At Global Forest Generation, we’re just as focused on learning and accountability as we are about ecosystem restoration. The nature of the work we do is inherently scientific; we’re planting the right trees in the right places with the help of our Acción Andina partners and local community leaders. If the execution is based on […]

In the Andean highlands of Ecuador, a small, dark berry is making a big impact. Known as mortiño, this native Andean blueberry (Vaccinium floribundum) has been part of Indigenous culture for centuries, deeply intertwined with ancestral traditions and seasonal celebrations. Today, mortiño is part of an emerging movement to domesticate native species and develop sustainable […]

Earlier this year, Global Forest Generation launched a partnership with sustainable textile leader Textil del Valle (TDV) to restore wetlands and plant an initial 32,000 native trees in the Chincha Valley of Peru. The watershed supplies water to thousands of local residents, to hundreds of thousands of people living in an agricultural and manufacturing hub just south of Lima, and also supports TDV’s textile supply chain. With support from TDV and global apparel brands Patagonia and Lacoste, the project illustrates a new partnership model for GFG, involving direct private sector participation and a more integrated highland management approach for both short and long-term water benefits.

We’re excited to announce the soft launch of Restoration Scope — Global Forest Generation’s brand-new interactive map designed to showcase the growing impact of Acción Andina across the Andes. This platform offers a visual window into the work of thousands of people who are coming together to restore the world’s highest-elevation native forests. With Restoration […]

Through our initiative, Acción Andina, we help restore native trees called Polylepis. Polylepis forests in the high Andes, with their twisted trunks and dense canopies, provide a remarkable range of ecosystem services. Learn more about this magical tree. In ecological restoration, certain plant species stand out for their remarkable ability to transform degraded landscapes into […]

Did you know that glaciers act as time capsules, preserving invaluable climate records from thousands of years ago? As they melt, we lose not only a glimpse into our planet’s past, but also vital freshwater resources. Climate change has led to a 30–50% reduction in Andean glaciers over the past 30 years, threatening water security […]
